Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the A-REITs , Consumer Staples and Industrials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.71%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Ramelius Resources Ltd (ASX: RMS ), which rose 6.74% or 0.15 points to trade at 2.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Ltd (ASX: FPH ) added 4.79% or 1.45 points to end at 31.74 and Platinum Asset Management Ltd (ASX: PTM ) was up 4.39% or 0.03 points to 0.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were St Barbara Ltd (ASX: SBM ), which fell 3.33% or 0.01 points to trade at 0.22 at the close. Polynovo Ltd (ASX: PNV ) declined 3.13% or 0.04 points to end at 1.24 and Nanosonics Ltd (ASX: NAN ) was down 3.09% or 0.14 points to 4.55.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 596 to 483 and 350 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 4.89% to 11.66.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.21% or 6.38 to $3,047.92 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.26% or 0.18 to hit $69.18 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.22% or 0.16 to trade at $72.55 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.63, while AUD/JPY rose 0.56% to 95.02.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 104.01.
