Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Gold , Metals & Mining and Resources sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.52% to hit a new 3-months high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Perseus Mining Ltd (ASX: PRU ), which rose 9.73% or 0.33 points to trade at 3.72 at the close. Meanwhile, Seek Ltd (ASX: SEK ) added 7.09% or 1.57 points to end at 23.72 and Regis Resources Ltd (ASX: RRL ) was up 6.92% or 0.32 points to 4.86 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Nufarm Ltd (ASX: NUF ), which fell 30.10% or 1.21 points to trade at 2.81 at the close. Appen Ltd (ASX: APX ) declined 9.60% or 0.12 points to end at 1.13 and Idp Education Ltd (ASX: IEL ) was down 6.55% or 0.59 points to 8.42.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 573 to 494 and 442 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 1.11% to 11.60.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.10% or 35.99 to $3,320.59 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.13% or 0.70 to hit $62.73 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 0.68 to trade at $66.06 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.59% to 0.65, while AUD/JPY fell 0.18% to 92.66.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.63% at 99.35.
